The Young Pharmacists Group (YPG) spectacularly concluded its inaugural activity week, a dynamic series of events designed to champion public health, celebrate professional excellence, and foster unity among the next generation of pharmaceutical caregivers. The week-long program, which ran from August 28th, seamlessly blended impactful community service with a prestigious gala, underscoring the group’s commitment to being more than just healthcare professionals, but active community pillars.
Kicking Off with Knowledge: The Anti-Drug Misuse and Abuse Program (ADMAP)
The week commenced with a critical educational initiative, the Anti-Drug Misuse and Abuse Program (ADMAP). Moving beyond traditional outreach, YPG members took their vital message directly to the heart of academic life—lecture halls of Gifted hands lecture and Boiling point lecture houses.
Throughout the week, they engaged with hundreds of students, delivering powerful presentations on the dangers of drug misuse, the importance of prescription adherence, and the rising threat of substance abuse among youths.
This proactive approach aimed to equip students with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their health and the well-being of their peers, effectively positioning young pharmacists as frontline educators in the fight against drug abuse.
Taking Care to the Community: Uselu Market Medical Outreach

Translating theory into practice, the YPG moved from the lecture halls to the bustling streets of Uselu Market for a large-scale medical outreach program on the 29th of August. This event embodied the core ethos of pharmacy: accessible and compassionate care for all.
The YPG set up a comprehensive health camp offering:
Free Blood Pressure and Blood Glucose Screenings: Identifying risks for hypertension and diabetes, two prevalent health concerns.
Pharmacist-Led Medication Consultations: Providing crucial advice on proper drug use, potential interactions, and management of chronic conditions.
Health Education: Distributing materials and counseling on topics ranging from nutrition to preventive healthcare, demystifying complex medical information for the public.
Referral Services: Directing individuals with critical health needs to appropriate facilities for further care.
The outreach was met with an overwhelming response from market traders and visitors, highlighting a deep community need for such services and reinforcing the indispensable role of pharmacists in the public health landscape.
A Night of Glamour and Vision: The Grand Finale Dinner & Awards
The week culminated in a black-tie dinner event held at the elegant Elora Event Center on Saturday, a night dedicated to celebration, recognition, and vision.
The evening was graced by a distinguished Keynote Speaker whose address, “The Future of Pharmacy: Innovation, Integration, and Impact,” inspired attendees to embrace their evolving role in a modern healthcare system. The speech challenged the young pharmacists to be innovators, advocates, and leaders, setting a powerful tone for the future.
A major highlight of the night was the official launch of the Young Pharmacists Group Edo’s website [www.psnypgedo.org]. This digital platform will serve as a hub for resources, event information, career opportunities, and a blog, strengthening the group’s network and amplifying its reach.
The ceremony also featured an Award Service, where outstanding members were recognized for their exceptional contributions, dedication, and leadership throughout the year. The awards celebrated not just achievement, but the spirit of service that defines the group.
A Week of Impact, A Future of Promise
The YPG Activity Week was more than just a calendar of events; it was a powerful statement. It demonstrated a holistic model of modern pharmacy—one that educates, serves, celebrates, and innovates. From the informed minds in lecture theatres to the grateful hearts in a busy market, and the inspired professionals at a gala dinner, the Young Pharmacists Group has firmly planted its flag, promising a future of continued service, leadership, and transformative impact on public health.
